Meet nextbit Robin truly different smartphone

The Nextbit Robin, the "cloud-first" smartphone that continuously backs up your data online. As is apparent from its playful design, the Robin is a rather unique mid-range Android device meant to learn from your habits. Any apps or photos on the device you haven't used or looked at in a while are stored in the cloud automatically when you're connected to power and on a local Wi-Fi network. The company pledges to improve the device down the line with additional features that take advantage of cloud syncing. The Robin is the brainchild of former HTC designer chief Scott Croyle and former Google Android team members Tom Moss and Mike Chan, who co-founded Nextbit in 2012 to develop more intelligent backup software and this year moved on to hardware.
Nextbit Robin specs and features
As you can see, the Nextbit Robin looks a fair bit different to most Android smartphones and you can choose from Mint or Midnight colour options.
We'll come to core specs of the device shortly but the main feature of the Robin is the 'cloud-first' nature. What this means, according to Nextbit, is that the phone intelligently adapts to your storage needs.
The Robin has 32GB of internal storage so it's not like there isn't anything to play with. However, it will optimise the space based on the apps you use and space you need. Anything you don't use will be offloaded to the cloud – apps and photos will be uploaded when you're connected to power and Wi-Fi (by default anyway). You'll get 100GB of online storage to play with.
It's mostly about storage at the moment but Nextbit says: "We have big plans for future cloud-first features that will continue to intelligently enhance your experience by seamlessly adapting to how you live and work."
Back to the core specs of the phone and the Robin has a 5.2in Full HD IPS screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM and the 32GB of internal storage we mentioned. It's also got a 13Mp rear camera and a 5Mp front camera.
There's also NFC, a fingerprint sensor, front facing stereo speakers, 11ac Wi-Fi and a 2680mAh battery.
Nextbit expects to ship the Robin with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and says it bloat-free so you won't find a single third party app installed. It will also come with an unlocked bootloader so you can easily load another ROM such as CyanogenMod
